Winner #1: Dear Paula;
It is a great disappointment t hat the Hippie Chick 2009 race has sold out, but I would love to have an opportunity to bid on a spot!
My first 1/2 marathon was the Hippie Chick two years ago! Since then I have run 3, 1/2 marathons, 3 10k's and this year tackeld Hood to Coast! The Hippie Chick run has been my favorite because it's all women, the training runs from Portland Running Co. have been a great chance to meet other women runners and best of all I get to train and run The Hippie Chick with my girlfriend!
I am bidding $200 for a spot to be a HIPPIE CHICK and to support Raphael House Of Portland!
SincerelyRebecca Johnson
Winner #2 Dear Paula,Congratulations on the huge response and quick "sold-out" status of Hippie Chick 2009. It speaks volumes about what a fantastic event you host for women who like to run and walk. While I'm happy for those who were able to sign up, I am profoundly disappointed I won't be able to participate. I suppose I'm partially to blame as I have been encouraging many friends to sign up for this fun filled day! I just wish I'd gone on-line sooner, today.
The Hippie Chick is very near and dear to my heart. My first half marathon was Hippie Chick 2006. It was a major inspiration to me, and since then I have participated in Hippie Chick 2008 and the Helvatia Half 2008. I've also lost 40lbs since then! I have made it my goal to run the Portland Marathon 2009 and was so anxious to kick off my marathon training with the Hippie Chick Half Marathon.Thank you for the opportunity to bid on an entry and also for supporting such a great cause like the Rafael House. I am happy to bid $150 for a chance to join all the hippie chicks on the 9th of May and donate to at risk children and families. Please consider me!
Fondly,
Wendy Kiel
Winner #3: Paula-I am writing in on behalf of my wife who was saddened the other day to find out that the Hippie Chick ’09 had been sold out when she attempted to register. This is the second year she has been un-successful in signing up by missing the deadline. She had it on her calendar to do on Saturday however she was getting our kids ready for various activities that morning and figured she would do it later in the day since she knew last year it took a few days to sell out. She had never figured it would sell out in 8 hours! Needless to say, when she went to register about 6:00pm, it was too late. The rest of the evening here at home was about how she could have kicked herself for not signing up earlier in the day! Matters were made worse when her good friend, whom my wife had encouraged to sign up so they could run together, called her excited to say she had successfully entered the Hippie Chick. DISASTROUS! Now she has calculated how many months she will have to wait to actually run one – 19!! My wife has run many half-marathons but has heard great things about the Hippie Chick and was looking forward to running in it. Regardless, I am writing for her in hopes of being able to secure one of the last few auctioned entries. The Raphael House is a great charity and I would be happy to donate.Thanks for your consideration.Pat Pinnell (entrant would be Alisa Pinnell)
Winner#4 OK. I have just heard about this auction option and either my heart will be broken again or my husband will come away with my best birthday present ever (November 9)!! I ran my first half marathon when I was 25 years old..carefree and kid free!! Nothing after…I am not sure why. So as I turned 40 last year, now working with 3 young children and a wonderful husband, home and 3 pets I wanted to do more than go shopping in San Francisco or to a fabulous spa in Arizona to celebrate. I decided to recommit to running for my health and my spirit. I would run 4 half marathons for my 40th year. I quietly and solitarily embarked on my quest but when my friend and co-worker Susan caught wind she insisted that I run the 2008 Hippie Chick with her, the best race ever she tells me. She sent me the link and made sure I signed up early. We got in and had the most wonderful time…as wonderful a time as you can have running as fast as you can for 13.1 miles. Truly, I was so inspired by all the female energy, the support of my friends and the fact that I was getting faster that I couldn’t wait for my next race. Recently I finished my fourth race, again with my friend Susan in an all women’s race. We so inspired each other during the race that we finished 6 minutes faster than our original goal. WOW!! We couldn’t wait for the 2009 Hippie Chick so we could get even faster and continue our support and encouragement of each other in this common goal!! But I messed up and went to bed Halloween night without signing up and when I got out of bed and went to the computer the race was full!! It got worse when the group started emailing each other about whether they got in or not, I was the only not. Not only do I not want to let down the group but I don’t want to let down myself and I am so inspired and encouraged with running with all these women. So on behalf of my husband (his birthday present to me) and myself (my birthday present to myself) We are bidding $200 so that I can participate in the 2009 Hippie Chick Half Marathon in support of the Raphael House of Portland. Thank you Kirsten Zilke
Winner #5 Dear Paula,I was so sad to see that the Hippie Chick sold out before I could get my entry in, but appreciate the opportunity to bid on an entry as well as donate to the Raphael house. I love runwithpaula events because of they are so well-run, inspiring, support such great causes, and encourage camaraderie. I have wanted to run the Hippie Chick for years, but it has never worked out. This year, I am recovering from 13 1/2 weeks of bed-rest with a difficult pregnancy. One of my best friends is also wanting to get in shape after having a baby. We made a pact to sign up for the Hippie Chick together, and train to walk-run the race as a special gifts to ourselves on mothers day weekend. It will be her first half-marathon, and my first event back after prolonged bed-rest. I would like to bid $175 as a donation to Raphael house for a coveted entry to this race.Thanks!Lainie Yarris
