2017 brings us to beautiful Champoeg State Park for this third annual event.  Enjoy Rogue Beer and Burgers/Garden Burgers after running or walking this amazing course that runs along the Willamette River.   Champoeg State Park is the perfect setting to celebrate our national pastime of working hard and partying in equal measure. Please note:  No strollers, baby joggers or pets on course.  Thank you!

2016 Independence Day 5K/10K Race T-Shirt

What:  Fun 5K or 10K on paved bike paths of Champoeg State Park.  Get ready to run (or walk), eat great food, drink amazing beer and listen to some great music.

Where:  Champoeg State Park, St. Paul, Oregon

When: 8:00am, Independence Day 2017

Why: Because it’s 4th of July and you should be eating great food and drinking great beer at a park on the beautiful Willamette River.

Packet Pick Up: 2 options.

Option 1: Portland Running Company – Beaverton.  Monday, July 3, 2017, 10-3pm.

Option 2: Packet pick up begins at 6:30am at Champoeg State Park Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Please give yourself plenty of time to drive, park and pick up your packet.

Driving Directions:  Champoeg State Park, 8239 Champoeg Rd., NE. St. Paul, OR. 97137

Parking: $5 or Oregon State Parks Pass. You will need to purchase a day pass at the entrance to the park before you park your car or show your Oregon State Park Pass at the booth.  Day Use Pass is $5. per car so consider carpooling!  Please have $5 cash ready upon arrival for easy entrance and parking. OR buy a 12 month Oregon State Parks Pass here and enjoy all State Parks all year long!

Race Course: Our Course starts near the Riverside Pavilion and runs on paved bike path and road.  Both races are out and back courses.  Gorgeous scenery with lots of room to spread out and enjoy the day post race.  The course will be well marked and measured.

Changing Races: If you would like to change from the 10K to the 5K, or the 5K to the 10K, it’s no problem. See us at the registration table before the race. If you change your distance during the race please let us know directly after you finish.

Things to Do and See at Champoeg State Park: Camping, cabins, yurts, fishing, exploring, ultimate frisbee course, hiking, bike riding, historical tours.

Lunch: Burgers and garden burgers will be served starting at 9:00am. Your race number has a tag for a burger and if you are 21 you will receive your first beer for FREE! (Thank you Rogue!) Glukos and water will also be available.

Awards Ceremony- 10:00am: Our awards ceremony will start at 10 a.m. You’ll want to stick around for it, as giveaways will happen sporadically throughout. Ribbons three deep in each category will be awarded. Overall Male and Female and Overall Masters will earn special awards. Hoka One’ One’ Shoes will be given away randomly. Complimentary Portland Running Company gift cards will also in the mix, so stay and enjoy the Ben Rice Band, kick your feet up, and enjoy the day at Champoeg State Park. Games, including frisbee golf, sightseeing, horseshoes, hola-hooping and much more.

Hoka One One is an amazing shoe that we sell at Portland Running Company and they are an official sponsor of the Independence Day 5/10K. I have worn my Hoka’s for trail runs and marathons and I LOVE them. Hoka will be at the race with a shoe bar. You can try them out for yourself for free. Portland Running Company will bring some Hoka’s to the race for purchase so see us at the Portland Running Company tent once you realize you must bring a pair home for yourself!

Charity: Marion-Polk Food Share is our charity of choice. They do an amazing job feeding folks who need a hand. We will be making a cash donation to Marion-Polk Food Share and are asking you to join us in supporting this organization. Will you bring some cans of tuna, peanut butter or meat soup to the race? We will deliver it to the food share post-race for those in need.   We will also have a penny jar for cash donations as well. Thank you in advance for your willingness to give to others.

Running and walking in the heat can be dangerous. Please drink lots of water and Glukos on the course, come to the race hydrated, and drink lots of water after the race. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are also very important!!
